SurveysPaid Every year big corporations shell out billions of dollars on surveys and market research to help discover what products people want to buy. They need your viewpoint to help improve their products. This can help them make more money and they are prepared to pay you for your help. Typically, it’s in the form of a survey you fill out online. It takes just a few minutes and can pay up to $35 for each one. This is something that can be done from home, on vacation or anywhere you have an internet connection. WARNING! You might have read about “paid surveys” before, but you should be careful to partner with only trustworthy companies. There are plenty of companies around that promise you the world, but are unable to deliver enough paid surveys for you to make a good income.

Elite Mystery Shopper Mystery shopper jobs are real. My daughters used to work at Kentucky Fried Chicken and they’d have mystery shoppers come in all the time, only they never knew about it until after the shopper rated the shopping experience. As an example, KFC would order a mystery shopper. A shopper would come into the restaurant, check the dining room and bathrooms for cleanliness. They noted if employees greeted them with a smile and if they offered an up-sell during the ordering process. How fast was the order processed and, of course, how was the presentation and quality of food. A mystery shopper not only rates the business, but employees at the business. Employees that were “mystery shopped” earned cash prizes if they scored high on the visit. Each business hiring a mystery shopper has a checklist of items the business wants the shopper to evaluate and then report back with the findings. With the Elite Mystery Shopper program, you will instantly learn what you need to know and start registering for Mystery Shopper jobs with the major Mystery Shopping companies right away. WARNING! Beware of mystery shopper scams pretending to be Elite Mystery Shopper that send you unsolicited checks in the mail for large sums of money and a list of items they want you to buy with the money. One of the items on the list is to test a wire transfer service like Western Union. After you cash the check, the check bounces and you’re out all the money, including the bad check fee.

Question:

I want a job with autonomy, salaried at a wage comparable to support a single mother with three kids, a company phone/line, possibly use of a company car, definitely an office or cubical, in a health care related or educational environment, with excellent benefits. Currently I work in a ER and the physical demands and the 12 hour shift is VERY hard on my body as I am on my feet alll day! Also since I am not a nurse I am taking commands all day which I hate to do anymore! I have no control over my schedule, and the pay alone forces me to live off an on the welfare system (which I hate)! I have 14 years experience working primarily in emergency rooms and L&D with light clerical duties. I feel I am qualified to do a lot of other jobs but when they see that I have a CNA certificate I am always shuffled right back to a job I no longer love. I am graduating with my bachelors in general studies in December. Where are good places to look for work in Illinois and Indiana with all of my wants, likes and dislikes with my qualifications.

Answer:

Have you Googled ”medical jobs in xxxx” or “health care jobs in xxx”? What about working at a “doc in the box”, one of those urgent care centers that are open from 9:00 to 9:00 every day? That would be far less demanding.

Here are jobs on Monster.com: Medical jobs in Illinois Medical jobs in Indiana

http://medicaljobs.org

http://health-care.careerbuilder.com/?sc_cmp2=JS_Home_SD_HC

Health insurance company? Maybe not. Once you learn how evil they are, they’ll have you spitting blood.

Question:

I’m not really skilled in anything, nor do I have a degree, but I’m going to lose my job over the summer, and I know I won’t be able to find another one, because A) the economy around here sucks. it took a whole year for me to find THIS job, B) I’m moving at the end of the summer, and C) I’m going to be traveling a LOT over the summer because I’m still not sure where we’re moving — it all depends on where my cohabiting friend can find a job/what financial aid package I can get from universities.

In other words, finding and holding down something ‘steady’ may not be an option, so I wanted to know if there’s some way I could find “side jobs” that don’t require regular commitment, where I can just pocket some cash from the day/week of work I do and then be done with it.

Anyone ever do that?
I’d rather do something legal, if possible.

Answer:

Can you write? There is a website that I use to submit writing projects that I need. I HATE writing. I know what I want to write about, but it’s not always easy articulating it, especially if I know nothing about the topic. I’m more of a bullet-points type of person.

The website is called http://iwriter.com There are no membership fees and no bulshit “writing kits” to buy. This is a legit gig. Clients request writing projects and the Writers write them. The client reviews the article written and if they like it, they pay the writer. If not, it goes back into the queue for someone else to write. Just watch the videos on the site to see how it’s done.

As long as you have internet access in your travels, you can do this!

Question:

I was just laid off last week. I was making $ 14/hr working through a temp agency. I am wondering what MN definition is of suitable work, so I can smartly decline/accept any work my temp agency offers w/out losing my Unemployment. I know towards the end of the month I may have a $ 11/hr job offered. I would prefer not accept that job, and spend the time looking for better work.

Answer:

Available for work means you are ready and willing to accept work in your usual occupation or other suitable employment.

This includes being:

Ready to accept work immediately if employment is offered to you. You are not eligible if you are out of the area for a reason other than to seek work.

Willing to accept employment for all shifts and days that are normal for your occupation.

Willing to accept the wage most employers in your area pay for your occupation for someone with your qualifications and experience.

Willing to commute a reasonable distance to work.

Being available also includes having transportation, such as a personal vehicle, public transit, or car pool, and making necessary family care arrangements.

Each state has different definitions. Here is what California says. It appears that the burden of proof is on them! That’s hella cool.

B.Elements of Suitable Work

Before any disqualification can be imposed for refusing suitable employment without good cause, the Department must show that all of the following elements exist:

An opening exists.

The offer is genuine.

The claimant received the offer.

The claimant received sufficient information about the prospective job.

The work is suitable*.

*Here are two examples.

The employer had a position available in notions and yardage; he did not have an opening for a salesperson in ready-to-wear garments. The claimant’s sales experience for the past 11 years had been in ready-to-wear garments, she was registered with the Department as ladies ready-to-wear salesperson. While the employer had an opening, the available position was determined not suitable for the claimant.

The claimant, who had been employed for four years as a record tester, had been on a leave of absence. She was not reinstated at the end of her leave due to seasonal shutdown. The Department referred the claimant to work in the garment industry as an inspector-trainee at a starting wage 43% less than her prior salary. The claimant refused the referral. The Board held the claimant was not subject to disqualification because the work offered to the claimant was unsuitable in view of her prior earnings and experience and her prospects of obtaining work in her customary occupation within a reasonable time.

Question:

Basically, I PCS’d with my husband several months ago and I’m looking for work. Most jobs that I’m actually qualified for are admin assistant type jobs and pay around $ 12-$ 14/hr, which obviously is not great, but my paycheck would go mostly towards savings.

My question is, would taking a job like that hurt me in the long run career-wise since I have a degree? I don’t want to undermine the worth of my degree even if it is a general degree, but since we’ll only be here for a couple more years I don’t want to sit around waiting for a “real” job to come through and have to quit it a year later.

I keep reading conflicting opinions- some say any employment looks better than unemployment, others say college graduates should not take jobs “beneath” them because they’ll get stuck doing that kind of work forever. But I don’t know if the typical rules apply to military spouses since we move so often and “getting our foot in the door” is about all we have time for.

Answer:

No, it doesn’t look bad, especially in this economy. It will look even better if you can find some way to advance yourself in that position. Now that would look sweet on a resume.

Not having a job for an extended period of time is the new discriminatory tactic of late.

“Get stuck doing that kind of work.” Back in the day when there were plenty of jobs available, but not currently.

Question:

I finally got my claim forms to cover the last month of unemployment, but I stopped looking for work because I am going to get hired at a company, but they scheduled the interview for next month so I can’t do anything other than wait for them.

The claim forms both have an “X” checked in box 3 where it says “Did you look for work?”. It wouldn’t make sense to look for work when I already know I am going to get hired, but I still need to pay the bills so I really need the money from these backdated claim forms.

Do they actually check these work-search records? I’ve thought about just faking them or using some jobs I applied to before the time of these claim forms. If I contact EDD would they make an exception? I need some advice on how to proceed, as anybody who has dealt with California unemployment would know they are nearly impossible to contact and are usually just interested in kicking people off of unemployment, even those who are fully deserving of it.

Answer:

If you lie, be prepared to pay the consequences. Just sayin’.

They don’t have the manpower to check them all. I’m sure they might spot check. Plus, this isn’t like the old days where you had to apply in person and could actually get a name of who was in charge. So many employers only accept applications online. They go into a database IF they survive the filters they have in place to look for specific keywords. Beats me if these outfits are in cahoots with the EDD to verify if you actually submitted an app.

Question:

In a state with the nation’s highest jobless rate, landscaping companies are finding some job applicants are rejecting work offers so they can continue collecting unemployment benefits.

It is unclear whether this trend is affecting other seasonal industries. But the fact that some seasonal landscaping workers choose to stay home and collect a check from the state, rather than work outside for a full week and spend money for gas, taxes and other expenses, raises questions about whether extended unemployment benefits give the jobless an incentive to avoid work.

Members of the Michigan Nursery and Landscape Association “have told me that they have a lot of people applying but that when they actually talk to them, it turns out that they’re on unemployment and not looking for work,” said Amy Frankmann, the group’s executive director. “It is starting to make things difficult.”

Chris Pompeo, vice president of operations for Landscape America in Warren, said he has had about a dozen offers declined. One applicant, who had eight weeks to go until his state unemployment benefits ran out, asked for a deferred start date.

“It’s like, you’ve got to be kidding me,” Pompeo said. “It’s frustrating. It’s honestly something I’ve never seen before. They say, ‘Oh, OK,’ like I surprised them by offering them a job.”

Some job applicants are asking to be paid in cash so they can collect unemployment illegally, said Gayle Younglove, vice president at Outdoor Experts Inc. in Romulus.

“Unfortunately, we feel the economy is promoting more and more people and companies to play the system and get paid or collect cash money so they don’t have to pay taxes,” Younglove said.

$ 12-per-hour jobs

A person becomes ineligible for benefits if he or she fails to accept suitable work, said Stephen Geskey, director of Michigan’s Unemployment Insurance Agency.

The average landscape worker earns about $ 12 per hour, according to the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Growth. A full-time landscaping employee would make $ 225 more a week working than from an unemployment check of $ 255.

But after federal and state taxes are deducted, a full-time landscaper would earn $ 350 a week, or $ 95 more than a jobless check. The gap could narrow further for those who worked at other higher-paying seasonal jobs, such as construction or roofing, which would result in a larger benefits check.

http://detnews.com/article/20100510/BIZ/5100335/

Answer:

Would you bust your balls out in the elements for $95 more a week? $12/hr ain’t jack for labor like that. Raise the pay and you might find your workers.

Question:

One of my friends told me about this website but i wanted to know if its a good place to apply for a job since you do enter personal information…

Answer:

Yes, Snagajob is a good place to find a job. In fact, you’ll find jobs there that you may not find any place else. You see, a lot of employers, especially the larger ones, don’t want to hassle around with people walking in the door asking for job applications. So they hire massive job networks like Snagajob to handle the application process for them. Plus, it also gives the hiring companies more exposure. That comes in real handy if you’re thinking about relocating and you want to know what’s available in other cities, parts of the state or even acrose the country.
