Log on, find a job and get to work. Snagajob

Question:
I have filed for unemployment benefits here in California and every week, I receive a questionnaire for details about my job hunting for the next two weeks. One of the questions was : “Did you look for work?” And in the back of the form there is an area where I’m suppose to write the details of me looking for work such as the date I applied for a job, the name of the company I applied to, the results of my application, etc.

My question is, do I have to always answer “Yes, I am/have been looking for a job” to get my unemployment benefits? What will happen if I answer “No?” And do you have any tips or suggestions when dealing with the government with unemployment claims?

Answer:

You MUST be looking for a job to receive unemployment benefits. You must be ready, willing and able to go to work. If you are sick for a few days or you go on vacation, you cannot collect unemployment for those days that you were unavailable.

Write down all your online job application submissions, too. You don’t have to apply in person to be “looking for work”.
